PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2006-present Partner: Healthcare and Medical Devices, Market Potential 

Strategic marketing practice provides sustainable growth strategies for businesses. We help entrepreneurs commercialize their technologies.  Core services include strategic planning, market and competitor assessments, partnership strategies, and investor positioning.  Lead partner for Healthcare and Medical Device practice.

1982-present: Senior Physician Partner, Kaiser Permanente

Healthcare: Chief of Education, Fairfield and Diablo Service Area (1986-2000). Engaged in a busy and successful pediatric clinical practice for over two decades. Recognized by Kaiser Permanente as the top-ranked pediatrician regionally based on health plan member surveys.

Marketing and Communication Management: Organized and led highly successful Clinicians’ Conference on Computing, a national IT innovation showcase drawing over 500 management attendees annually. Originated, produced, and moderated a successful, live quarterly TV series, Computers in Medicine, to promote the use of technology in healthcare. Regional Director of Physician Communication and Education Systems (1991-1994).

Operational System Management: Successfully managed the adoption of the Clinical Information Presentation System (CIPS), primary operational system currently used by 58,000+ care providers in over 60 dispersed sites to manage schedules, lab and radiology results, medications, immunizations, and other clinical data. Successfully implemented and managed the adoption of Micromedex and Medline clinical reference systems. Managed EMC2 and Lotus Notes enterprise mail systems. As Chair of IT Sourcing Standards Workgroup (1995-1996) and PC Committee (1992-1996), developed and implemented sourcing standards to qualify vendors and reduce IT supply costs. Member of the Healthcare Informatics Subgroup and Clinical Information System Group (1994-1997).

Project Management: Created Galileo, company’s first effort at a PC interface for mainframe systems. Managed the adoption of the Caregiver Menu, a mainframe user navigation system. Participated in successful corporate Y2K remediation effort. Developed, operated, and promoted company’s first national electronic bulletin board system. Participated in pioneer IT CQI project increasing PC procurement efficiency 10-fold.

1998-present: Co-Founder and CEO, Synaxon

Co-invented an ultrafast network storage technology, which was awarded 3 key US patents in 2004. Qualified the company for membership in the Contra Costa Software Business Incubator.

1995-1998: Founder and Database Software Developer, NameMetrix

Created unique algorithms to accelerate very large database (VLDB) processing 240-fold and searches 60-fold. Used algorithms to develop metrics for the domain name indutry.  Presented at database industry conferences as an invited speaker.
